POLICE COURT NEWS.

«*. At the Police Court on Saturday, before Mr. C. C. Kettle,- S.M., Frederick Annear, alias Johnston, a new arrival from Wellington, who was remanded from Jaefc Tuesday, was found guilty of being an idle and disorderly person. He was contended to three months' imprisonment. John Walker, a young man, was charged with the theft of a trowel, the property of a man who was working in Eaststreet. As Walker had already spent some time in gaol, His Worship dealt very leniently with him, by ordering him to come up for sentence when called upon. Ellen_Clarke, alias Edith Dennieon, who was remanded from last week on a charge of vagrancy, was sent to the Salvation Army Home until such time as she can be sent back to Wellington, where her friends reside. Lucy Elizabeth Sinclair pleaded guilty to being without lawful means of support, and ehe also preferred to go to the Army Home rather than to gaol, and was accordingly ordered there for a period of 12 months. John Farrell, alias Batts, was prohibited for 12 months, and was also convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon for his second offence within six months. In Saturday's issue reference was made to a case against a young man named Bridson, who had been charged before Mr. R. W. Dyer, S.M., at the Police Court, the previous day, and found not guilty of having fraudulently failed to account for certain sums of money to his employers (the Great Northern Brewery Company). In the report the secretary of the company states that he was wrongly credited with having said "In my opinion Bridson did not intend to steal the money, but drink muddled him."
