MR. ROLLESTON'S MISSION.

Mr. G. H. F. Rolleston, son of the. late Hon. W. Bolleston, of Canterbury, arrived in Auckland yesterday on ,an important mission as British Trade j Commissioner.

Mr. Rolleston, who ;is staying at the Grand Hotel, accorded a brief interview to a Herald representative yesterday morning, and said the, British Board of Trade bad been impressed by a point made by Sir Joseph Ward at the London Conference of Prime -Ministers, last year. : Sir Joseph had pointed out that, whereas the British manufacturers had representatives in the British 'Consuls,? at ■, foreign porta, they had no actual Commissioners 'in the British oversea dominions. ; , The Board of Trade hid eeeh.the advantages?urged by New Zealand's Prime Minister, and ? had appointed Commissioners •■ for the different colonies, he (Mr. Rolleston) being appointed to New Zealand. This ; appointment, however, did not interfere -with the local representatives at the different 'centres. In Avckland, Mr. Denniston, secretary; to * the Chamber of Commerce, represented the British Board of Trade. He (Mr. Bolleston) would be permanently stationed in New Zealand, with headquarters at Wellington, and his duty? was to keep 'the Board of Trade * advised as to conditions in New Zealand affecting British tjade? He was now engaged in travelling through New Zealand to make himself acquainted with the different trade channels, and existing conditions.
