A new agreement regarding the water supply contract was finally completed yesterday, when the Borough Council paid over to the contractors £5000 on account of the balance of £10,000 odd held. by the Council, and the contractors are required to commence work within 10 days from date. The agreement requires that they shall have the whole of the work completed within four mentis. The contractors abandoned a claim of about £1000 for extras, which they claimed was due by the Council to them, sis well as £350 in cash, and have undertaken to erect a break-pressure tank, besides engaging to do an amount of extra work to strengthen the main line, that was not included in or anticipated in the contract. The Council on its part accepts a reduction of working pressure from 17511) to the square inch to 1501b to the square inch. The contractors have undertaken to maintain a continuous supply of water to the town during the completion of the work. The amicable arrangement arrived at has avoided expensive litigation and the inconvenience of the town's water supply being cut off for several months during the summer.
