St. Petersburg, December 4. ; Herr Herman Nbffeld, a wealthy German resident of Holbstadt, in the Caucasus, was recently kidnapped by brigands, who took ? him to the village of Petrovsk. They refused a ransom of £2000 which was : offered, demanding double that sum.
A party of mounted police, armed with a couple of machine guns, then bombarded the village, and killed the ringleaders of the bandits. Neufeld, by throwing himself on tta ground, escaped the hail of bullets, and was rescued uninjured.
