A GROWING POWER.

Wellington, Thursday.
The Farmers' Union claims to have in the new Parliament no fewer than 13 of its members, including the provincial president of Otagtf (Mr. R. Scott), the expresident of the Auckland province (Mr. L. R. Phillippe), and a prominent member of the Wellington district branch (Mr. E. Newman). More tjiah one-half of the members of the House have expressed their sympathy with the platform of the union, and it is believed that there is a majority of members in favour of the freehold option.
THE OTAKI SEAT.
AN APPEAL TO BE LODGED.

Wellington, Thursday. It is stated that an appeal will be lodged against the election of Mr. W. H. Field for the Otaki seat in the House of Representatives on the ground that sufficient secrecy was riot observed at one of the polling-booths. > WESTLAND. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] ..
