CLUB AND HOTEL SERVANTS.
AN ARBITRATION POINT.

Chkistchulrch, Thursday. An application was made at the Arbitration Court sitting? this morning-, by the Hon. J. Barrj ou l>ci>alf of the Hotel Employees' Union, to join employers in private hotels and clubs as parties to the award. The application was opposed by Mr. H. Broodhead, on behalf of the proprietors of private hotels, find Messrs. J. Bickertoa, Fisher, and H. J. Beswick (solicitor?, on beiialf ci various club?.
Mr. Barr stated that clubs competed with hotels for boarders, and that- was tor profit.
His Hono; said that they did not entry that on as a business. As far as he knew, a member of a club might have to pay call.?, but he never got any dividends* His Honor suggested that clubs did not underpay their servants. If there was a difference they would have some difficulty in getting nieu.
After consultation, His Honor announces that the Court would not make an order joining tho clubs, in view of the provision of the new Act, exempting clubs, and cbj fact that they had always been exempted from previous awards.
