INVERCARGILL'S PROGRESS.
Sir,—An item in. the Herald of the 2lsi * inst. is worthy of more than passing in terest. ' A wire from Invcrcargill states that there have been no insolvents there for the last nine, months, with tho exception of two' ' 'but these were of men who had just entered"/ . the district, and their liabilities'had been : incurred in another electorate. A correspondent recently spoke of this town as bcinsr I '' second-rate, and ', of small importance;'- v v'greater mistake was never mad©. I venture to assert that. Invercargill is tho best laid out town in the Dominion, and for its' size is equal to any for the stately buildings lining' its streets. While.no one would bo sanguine enough to attribute the commercial progre=j everywhere) seen as being duo entirely ,'ta temperance regime, still thousands will keen,' ly note' and emphasise the fact that latercargill has progressed not in spite of but in consequence of temperance reform.
