UNIQUE COAL PLANT.
[by telegraph.-—press ASSOCIATION.] Westpokt, Wednesday. The Westporb Stockton Coal Company's official opening took place at Ngakawau yesterday. Speeches wore made by Mr. Reece (chairman of directors) and Mr. Greenwood (Mayor of Wostport), who also turned the handle of the engine at the powerhouse and set the whole of the machinery in motion. The visitors were afterwards entertained at a banquet, at which Mr. G. EL Broome, the company's managing engineer, said there was coal piacticallv m sight for 60 years, with probably more to be. located as the works developed. The plant is unique in New Zealand coal mining, in that it is electrically driven from the mine to the bins.
