The melodrama is a popular one of its kind, and it. is well acted by the ; company. A strong feature is the . introduction of the " tin-can band" in the ■i. ■- third act, with incidental musical items by several of the youngsters. The interpreta- '■■ tion was well received last night. On Friday night "The Old Folks at Home," by J. A. Campbell, will be presented for the first time in Auckland. - Some two weeks back . the drama was presented in Wellington for the-first time *in Australasia, and met with immediate success. There is a sweet, homely tone in tho story and a picturesque ' setting somewhat unlike the usual theme of melodrama. John Fuller -and Sons, resumed an interrupted season with an entire change of programme. The Biblical ". story "of Samson ■■■'■';■.■ was ' presented; in '■: an sV attractive coloured series. ' Other' notable ; pictures embraced such subjects as a boys',festival,drill at the Reedham; Orphanage in Surrey, in which the' evolutions were depicted with wonderfid realism. Dramatic ; pictures shown included "A Submarine Tragedy," in which a fight between iwo divers was reproduced; "The > Mesmeriaer," a Spanish episode, in which thrilling experiments are utilised to •trace * murder«,. whose arrest is brought about in a striking manner; and "Walter, the Rural Postman," another pictorial story of a murder- and its sequel. ' Magic" pictures were represented, and there were several comib films; Of "the latter "My Neighbours are Giving a Dance " and "The Way ; to Get Rid of Mother-in-law " proved highly , ludicrous. The large audience frequently denoted. its appreciation by vigorously applauding.' The same programme will be > given to-night and during the week. Considerable enthusiasm is being displayed amongst the votaries of roller skating in J connection with the forthcoming, fancy dress ] and impersonating carnival on the.lsth and 16th inst. .Numbers of ladies are practising daily. To-nipht a wheel and bucket race takes place. This is similar to a potato race as, held aboard ship, and should prove, interesting. In addition to the fun provided for skaters the management have started a Glideaway Limerick competition for a prize of £5, and all visitors to the Glideaway will receive coupons entitling them to a chance in securing the prize.
