POLICE COURT NEWS.

\ REMANDED FROM DUNEDIN. ■> In the Police Court yesterday, before Mr. R. W. Dyer, S.M., a young English girl named "May; Hallett, who arrived in the Dominion about a year ago, and who was sentenced to imprisonment only a short time ago for! obtaining board and lodgings under false pretences at Cambridge, appeared on a charge of having stolen a gold watch and albert, valued at £10 10s, from tho dwelling of Constant Perrin, at, Auckland, on September 3. Sergeant Hendry, who appeared for the prosecution, explained . that the girl had been arrested in Dunedin, and had been remanded to Auckland. As she. had only arrived under escort that morning, he asked that the case be allowed to stand over until today. The accused raised no objection, and a remand was accordingly granted.

MISCELLANEOUS.

Joseph C Nelson was ordered to contributors a week towards the support of his young brother, and William McDowell was ordered to pay off the arrears on orders for tho maintenance of his three children, ] at the rate of 3s per week, or in default three months' imprisonment. John Wm. McCracken was also ordered to pay off the arrears on an order against him within a fortnight, or in default one month's imprisonment. Michael Hickey was sentenced to one month's imprisonment on a charge of having used bad language in Symonds-fitreefc on Monday evening. ■' -'.;•".
