They were handed into the custody of the police on arrival at .Wellington on Wednesday. Mr. A. E. Jolly, who recently took possession of the wrecked steamer Australian, near Port Darwin, has inspected the wreck, and decided' that all idea of raising it will have to be abandoned. All that he fill do will be to salve everything possible from the sunken ship. There is good reason for stating that the Government intends to drop a largo number of the most debatable; clauses of the new dairy regulations (says the Dominion). This step is understood to be due to the protests of dairy-farmers, coupled with the near approach of the elections. ' ■ In extenuating the oratory of a Parliamentary aspirant at Wellington the other Evening, his chairman somewhat curiously remarked' that it was as yet only the boginning of the campaign, and the candidate was not so eloquent as he might be, but when he became more of an old warhorse he would speak better. . ; '
