A considerable amount of business was transacted oil the Stock Exchange yesterday, and the market generally showed an improved tone. In standard stocks Bank of New- Zealands sold at £8 133 6d, and they closed with buyers at £8 12s. and sellers at £8 15?. Tatipiri Coals were done at 18s 3d, and more wow available at that figure, buyers offering 18s, A parcel of Kauri Timbers (con.! •was sold at 14s 2d, and D.S.G.'s saw business at 4s lOd. Auckland Tramways ford.) were done at 21s 6d, and closed with buyers at 21s. and sellers at 21s txl. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, Hamilton, report:— held our monthly sale in Cambridge yards on Friday and yarded 1200 fat and store cattle and dairy cows and 700 sheep. Buyers were present from all parts of tho Waikato, Te Puke, Paeroa, Uikutaia, Tahuna, Waiugaro, and Putaruru. and wo have to report one of the most successful sales held in this district for some months. The sale, commenced at 12 o'clock and only concluded at 5.30 p.m.- with the sale of dairy stock. Wo were compelled to make a second yarding of store cattle, and out of 170 fat cattle of choice quality penned all were disposed of excepting two pens of steers. The best steers realised from £8 5s to £9 17s 6d; lighter weights, £6 15s to £7 16s ; heavy young cows and heifers, £6 10s to £8. lighter sorts, £4 15s to £5 7s 6d; aged cows, £4 5s to £5 2s 6d; fresh three-year steers, £5 10s to £6; two and a-half vear steers, £4 5s to £5; two-year steers, £3 4s'to E3 16s; 15 to 18month steers, £2 lis to £2 18s; yearling steers, £2 3s to £2 10*: mixed readings, £1 17s to £2 4s; others, £1 10s to £l*l3s 6d; choice yearling heifers, £1 15s to- £2 2s; quiet empty 18-month to two-year-old heifers, £2 4s to £3 2s; fresh cows and heifers, £2 16s to £3 12s 6d; store cows, £1 lis to £2. One • hundred and fifty dairy cows and heifers elicited brisk bidding and all were sold. Good cows brought £7 5s to £8 10* ; choice heifers, £6 to £8 12s 6d; others, £4 173 6d to £5 ss. Wo held our annual hogget fair and cattle sale at Ohaupo on September 22, and although the rain camo down in torrents we report a successful sale. Young cattle were lower in value than previous sales, but a number of pens reserved at the hammer were sold afterwards at satisfactory prices.. Fat cattle made, no chango in price, and store sheep were rather bettor. Young lambs showed a considerable improvement in price, and fat sheep opened at about last week's rates. Tigs sold well ; There was a moderate entry of store sheep, a considerable proportion being ewes. For dry sheep there was an improved demand and prices showed some advance. Thero was a good clearance of the whole yarding. -The. few-lots, of withers sold lip to 16a 2d;'ewe". hoggets," to 14(t 9d; wether hoggets, to 12s 6d; mixed sexes, to 33s lOd. Two-tooth crossbred ewes, to 16s 3d; merino ewes',' 1 8s; and ewes and lambs. 30». There were about'6o fat lambs penned and there was a much better demand than last week. The number of fat cattle entered was 185, but in view of supplies obtained at the Culverden sale the previous week the offerings were sufficient for the trade.
