Disastrous floods are reported from Hyderabad, in the Deccan, occasioning heavy loss of life (Received October 1, 1.5 a.m.)' Calcutta, September 30. ' i v The Musi River overflowed its banks at Hyderabad, flooded the Residency, and overwhelmed the suburb of Zulyanj, where the Nizams Hospital collapsed, burying a number of patients in the ruins. Hundreds of natives have lost their lives. The damage is estimated at a million and a-quarter sterling. ;' ■ Hyderabad is isolated by the flood, which is racing over the bridges. The rainfall was torrential for a day and a-half, 15in of rain falling in 36 hours. Remarkable as was the downpour reported, it is by no means a record, having often been exceeded in tropical Australia and in the Islands. At Croydon, in Queensland, last January, 20in of rain fell in seven hours, and at Bundaberg during the previous "wet" reason a similar fall was recorded for six hours. At Suva, Fiji, m August, 1906, as the result of a storm lasting 12 hours, the rain gauge registered over 30in, which is almost as much as the fall in Auckland tor a whole year ( ~
