A CORRECTION.
Sir,— your local ro what took place at tho Chamber of f Commerce on Thursday, somo important errors havo crept in. In speaking of tho amounts voted for th© North and South Islands I am reported to havo said: "In this he did not count the vote for the Main Trunk line." This is exactly the rovorso of what I" did 6ay. In reply to a question I said: "Yes, I hawo included tho whole of tho £225,000, and it is right that it should be, I do not agree with thoso who hold that part of it should bo charged against tho < South Island railways," etc. After showing that on tho whole railway votes the South gets far the largest portion —I estimate to the extent of £360,000—1 am reported to have said, "And thus at the end of tho year had no greater mileage." What I did say was, "And thus at tho end of tho year socured a greater mileage." As these aro important _ errors, I shall feel obliged if you will give this an early insertion. Samuel Vaii/b.;
