DOMINION DAY.
Sir,— Dominion Day business has degenerated into a" more farce. I do not wonder that the people of the colony, especially those in - business, -aro heartily sick of Jhe whole show. It is carried to an absurdity. About 11.30 lust, night I was rung up by the Telegraph Department to listen to a message from the Hon. Mr. Fowlds to tho school children of New Zealand. The operator said he had also to forward me personally a copy of the message, and asked if I wanted i 1; that night. I replied in the negative, and expressed my candid opinion that any time during the following week would do. Either under misapprehension, or his boy having already started, a knock came to my door about midnight, and on investigation 1 found a telegraph boy with this precious messago from the Minister for Education to the boys and girls of New Zealand.' Could anything be more ridiculous? There was ono boy at any rate who felt jolly well disgusted with both message and sender. 1 think ho would much prefer a Government that was not, quite so liberal with other people's time after hours. Chairman School Committee. September 26. < — 1
