A PECULIAR WILL.

[from our own- COBBKSPONBEST.] London, August 21. Judging by his will, Colonel Richard Pilkington, for several years Conservative M.P. ( for South-west Lancashire, had ho lived, would have been a strong supporter of the Government's Licensing Bill. Colonel ; Piljcington was a largo glass manufacture! and a colliery proprietor, and he has left a fortuno which has been valued for probate at £692,858. : '•-" ' '■','; Colonel Pilkington's will contains the following directions:— "That my son or other purchaser,.' bis heirs and assigns, shall not, so far as it may he in his or their power to prevent the fiame, allow any present or future building, structure, or erection erected or set up'upon any part of my real estate to be used' for th« sale, for consumption on or _ off the premises, of any ale, porter, bear, 'wine, spirits or other intoxicating liquors, or for the purpose of receiving orders for the sale thereof, or knowingly let or lease any part of such real estate for the purpose of being used for any such purpose.*' , "If,'.' added 'the testator, "any tenant should, so use any building, the landlord is to put an end to the tenancy at the earliest date which the law will allow." Ho made this condition for 21 years after the decease of,,the longest-lived survivor of the late Queen Victoria, and would have made it last longer had the law allowed. But he recognised that,: circumstances might • render it expedient to relievo _ portions of his real ■ estate from this prohibition, and, therefore, he" authorised his trustees, if they should unanimously agree, to _ release any part • thereof from the conditions. At the same time he entreated his sou and heirs to carry , out his intention loyally, and in no grudging spirit, assuring them that he had not intro- . ; ,; duced it into his will • without anxious thought.
