DIVORCE PROCEEDINGS.
AN INTERESTING POINT.
By Telegraph —Press Association.—
Sydney, September 11. Mb. Justice Simpson, in the Divorce : Court yesterday, raised a question as to whether proof of service upon a party to, 1 a divorce suit residing in New Zealand could bo accepted by the Court. It had, he said, been the practice of the Court for, many years to have petitions served upon people beyond the jurisdiction of : ; the v Court, but the time had come when i they should decide whether that was a correct ':{ practice. As far as the Court -was concerned, a man in New Zealand was as a foreigner as if he resided in a village hi ; France. ''•.■. ... '.•','
If the practice was not legal, it -would bar a great many divorces, and if in future . the point was argued, and a higher Court decided that there was no jurisdiction, the decision would 'Invalidate hundreds Wof divorces that had been granted.
