MEETINGS.
ONEHUNGA LIBERAL AND LABOUR FEDERATION. This monthly meeting of the Onehunga branch of the Liberal and Labour Federation was held *t the Foresters' Hall lust evening, when Mr. K U. Allsworth presided over a. large attendance. vTha following general committee was elected :—Messrs. O. Loiiuix, W. Hills, \f Mitchell, W. Scarborough, 0 Smith, J. Northern, II Morris, Ackroyd, A. Mawkes, T. O'Keefe, J. Ryan, and W. Stewart. Mr. Denis O'Donog'lme wae elected an auditor and Mr. A. Mawkes as-gutant-seoretaj-y. It wus decided to hold a social in September. Several new members were elected and others proposed. PONSONBY DEBATING SOCIETY. The Fonsonby Literary and Debating Society held a very successful meeting in the lecture hall. Leys Institute, on Wednesday, when a debate took place. Mi. Nealc moved. " That the progress of the East is a menace to the West." Mr. Richards replied in the negative. A keen discussion followed, in which a large number took part. After both .speakers had replied for their respective sides the motion was put to the meeting and lost. Mr. Neale was declared the winner of the debate.
