SHOT BY HIS FRIEND.
A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT.
FATAL RESULT EXPECTED.

Chiiistchuiich, Thursday. A SERIOUS accident occurred at Kangiora about noon yesterday A young man named J. Whitmore, aged 21 years, recently came ;, am the North Island with a friend named Hail, and. was staying with the letter's uncle, Mr. A. Busing.
During the morning the young men were shooting at a target, and while Whitmore was standing in the doorway of a shed and Hill a short listance away to the left the former fired a shot and stepped auickly "cub of the doorway to" ascertain the result. Just at that moment Hall fired, and the bullet struck Whitmore in the neck, below and behind the left ear, passing through the right eye and shattering the eyeball. The wounded man was removed to a nursing home, whore the eye was removed. Little hope is entertained of his recovery. Whitmore has no relatives in New Zealand.
