The Unio.i Company's steamer Waikare arrived from Southern and East Coast ports at 10 a.m. yesterday and berthed at the Hobson-street Wharf. The steamer left. Dunedin on Friday - last and called at the usual coast ports, leaving Gisborne at 11.30 a.m. on Wednesday and arriving as above. The steamer leaves tor East Coast and Southern ports at noon to-morrow. THE TONGARIRO. The New Zealand Shipping Company's fine steamer Tongariro is due to load at Auckland about September 21, and is expected to make ■ Auckland the final port of departure on September 24. The vessel will be due at 'London on November 6 and will carry first, second and third-class passengers. THE ENCOUNTER. H.M.S. Encounter, which has been out in the gulf for the past, few days, returned to port yesterday. After taking in water and stores the warship leaves for Sydney. THE OSWESTRY GRANGE. The steamer Oswestry Grange arrived at Melbourne from Liverpool yesterday, and after dill- I ing at Sydney comes to Auckland. THE WIMMERA. The Huddarfc-Parker steamer Wimmera left i Sydney for Auckland on Wednesday night and is expected to arrive on Sunday afternoon next. Captain Stephenson, of the s.s. Ngapuhi, which arrived fro Whangarei last night, reports passing one of the barques of the Craig line off Hawaii at 7:30 p.m. yesterday. The barque will probably arrive at Auckland to-day. NOTICE TO MARINERS. The following notice to mariners has been issued by the New Zealand Marine Department:— Extension of shoal and alteration of buoy in Tauranga Harbour: Notice is hereby given that the shoal off the turning-point from the Stella , Passage to the Katikati. locally known as Sulphur Point Spit, hag extended to the northward, and in consequence the No. 1 red buoy of Stella Passage has been moved 300tt in a north-by-east direction, and now lies in 10ft at low water, springs. This change in the buoy's position narrows the Stella channel, as marked by No. 1 black ard No. 1 red buoys. These two buoys are now nearly abreast of each other and 500 ft •part. Vessels working Faulkner's channel into the Katikati can now steer across the spit extension from the buov in 4ft at low water, springs. The White Star liner Cevic, now at Melbourne, en route from Liverpool to New Zealand, has a large general cargo for Sydney. Like all the vessels of the White Star line, the Cevic is equipped with twin screws, and she is on her -■first visit to Melbourne. Her length is 500 ft— " about 25ft longer than the longest steamer that has ever been taken up 'he river. Her voyage ■ to Melbourne occupied 46 days, and was made in fine weather throughout.
