INDUSTRIES EXHIBITION.

OPENING ARRANGEMENTS. The date of the opening of the Industries Exhibition was definitely decided upon yesterday. It had been proposed to inaugurate the exhibition on August 5, and (his was agreed to at a meeting of the joint committee, held yesterday afternoon. It was thought that the Governor might be able to perform the ceremony, but Lord Plunket cannot arrive in Auckland until the Bth. The Mayor (Mr. A. M. Myers) has, therefore, consented to declare the exhibition open.

Tuesday, August 11, is to be a special day at the exhibition, and it was decided to invite the officers of the American fleet, the Governor, and members of the Ministry on that day. The committee also decided that it was desirable to hold an official dinner during Fleet Week, and it is hoped that Sir Joseph Ward and other Ministers and. representatives from the fleet i will be present. The display of New Zealand industries in the shop windo-vs' promises to be a very striking one. Most' of the big firms are giving up their windows to the goods made in New Zealand, and shopkeepers in Karangahape Road, now that the Fleet Reception Committee have made them a grant for the illumination of the thoroughfare, and of Upper Queen-street, are taking up the idea with avidity. > "I have no hesitation in declaring," said Mr. J. H. Mackie, the secretary of the exhibition, yesterday, "that tjhe* display of the Dominion's industrial products will be one that has never been equalled."
