LECTURE ON SOCIALISM.Mr. F. G. Ewington delivered a lecture on "The Perils and Problems of Collectivist Socialism," before the Church of England Men's Society, in the Epiphany Parish' Hall, Newton, last evening. The Rev. W. E. Lush occupied the chair. The lecturer pointed out the rapid rise of modern socialism, and urged that the Church could, and should, be a very powerful factor in bringing about such a condition of human life as to render the socialists' demands quite unnecessary. Human betterment and real progress in the best sense of the term had become conspicuous in latter years, and by judicious legislation, sobriety, industry, and the co-operation of the Church, there was nothing compatible with British justice and fair play which could not be procured peacefully by everybody, and without great delay in a humane and enlightened democracy like New Zealand. A vote of thanks was accorded.
