WAIHI. [JIT TKI.KCRAI'H. OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wauii, Tuesday. At the Police Court this morning, a young man named Win. Middloton was charged with area idling J. E. Median, at Waihi, on Friday last, and a similar charge was preferred against the informant (Median) by Middleton. Tho evidence showed that a difference arose between the parties, who are earners, as to who was entitled to take charge of a package of goods from the railway station for delivery. Tho Bench decided that Middleton was not entitled to take the goods without an order, and a conviction was entered, and a fine of £1, and costs £1 9* imposed. The charge against Meehan was dismissed. For riding a bicycle on the footpath a lad named A. Thomas was fined ss, and costs, 7s.
The number of student-; who have notified their desire to join the various classes to be hold in connection with the Waihi Technical School is, on the whole, satisfactory, but unless more names are enrolled in the art and plumbing classes, these cannot be started, as it is necessary that there should be at least .12 in any class before the Government will recognise it, and make a giant for apparatus. The majority of those enrolled arc going in for the commercial course. The total number on the roll of the school is 50, and all the classes in which there is a sufficient number will commence in about a fortnight. WHANGAREI. [ity TELKGRAI'H. —OWN COBKKSrONDKXT.] Whangabei, Tuesday. The Whangarei Philharmonic Society, under the conductorship of Mr. 11. Lunge, is now actively rehearsing the opera of "Pinafore." The Ladies' Guild of Christ Church held a successful bridge and euchre party in the Parish Hail last night, the proceeds of which arc to bo devoted to procuring material for a sale of work. [from our own correspondents.] MATAMATA. The new All Saints' Anglican Church at Mixtanikitit van indicated on t.iie 16th inst. by (lie Von. Archdeacon Willi?, agisted by the Revs. W. 11. Full advantage has been taken of Hie, fine weather during the last week and farm work has been in full swing. The contractors for the new school bridge are making good progress with the work and hope, to have, it, completed in about six weeks' time The structure, which is to have, a Mft span and 14ft roadway, is being built, of steel, with concrete abutments, and will be decked *ith jarrah timber. It is a new type of bridge in this country, being of the " pony lattice" construction an American idea. The Railways Department, have at last awakened to the cry of the country settler and put on a special train for carrying scoria on this liuti. MATAKOHB. 'Hie erection of the new post office is proceeding apace, and it will be, a decided acquisition to the district, having been designed on the moat up-to-date style, complete with telephone bureau, private box lobby, living rooms, etc. A football match (the first Held here (his year) eventuated on Saturday last between teams representing Matakohe and McCarroll's Bush, resulting in a win for the latter team by 8 points to 3. At, a meeting held in the e»ening delegates were appointed to confer with the Paparoa Club regarding the advisableness of joining forces with them, as neither district has sufficient men to form two separate teams.
