The Minister referred exhaustively to the land legislation of the past cession and its successful operation in the settlement of land, and condemned the work in his own electorate of the Boundary Commissioners. j He advocated that Parliament should fix j the electoral boundaries, and stated that a j Seetffd Ballot Bill. would be introduced j next session. Okey, M.P., addressed a small meeting of constituents in New Plymouth to-night. He vigorously criticised the, Government administration, and reviewed the work of last session. He was accorded, a hearty vote of thanks and confidence. MR. LANG AT OTAHUHU. Mr. P. W. Lang, M.P. for Manukau, addressed a well-attended meeting of his constituents at Otu-huhu on Thursday evening. Mr. John Todd, chairman of the Road Board, occupied the chair. Mr. Lang outlined the legislation before Parliament last session, dealing more particularly with the land laws. He received a very attentive hearing, and a vote of thanks was passed to him at the conclusion of his address. Mr. Lang has also addressed his constituents at Onehunga, Papaktiiu. S.M., a young man- named William Williams pleaded not guilty do stealing 30s, the property of William Hugh.'" Sergeant Hendry, who conducted the case for the prosecution, called evidence to .show that the complainant, a- visitor from Dargaville, and a cook by occupation, met the accused on the wharf on Sunday last, and after walking about together for some time Williams suggested that Hiudt should go home with him to his (Williams') lodgings. Hugh declined, the invitation, and Williams then asked him for 2s. which Hugh gave him. Next night accused met Hugh in the street, and they had a number of drinks together, the complainant paying for all of them. Prisoner asked the complainant for another 2s, hut this time the complainant refused to give it to hint. They afterwards went for a walk, the accused keeping very close to Hugh ail the time. Eventually Williams asked Hugh whether be had any money or not; and he replied. '• Ye<i« that's if you haven't robbed inc." By this time they had reached the Domain, and the complainant noticed the accused pretending to tie up his bootlace, and saw him slip something into his boot. Hugh at once felt for his money and found that- he had been relieved of it. The accused then told the. complainant that he wanted to go home, but the complainant would not allow Kim to do so.. Hugh subsequently met a, constable, who marched Williams off to the police station!'.' At the lock-up the accused was ordered to' take his boot off, and 2s 6d was found in! it. The arresting constable and the complainant afterwards visited the Domain, ■where the sum of 4s 6d was found on the grass.

Williams had nothing to say in answer to the charge., and was sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour. Mr. Dyer remarked that cases like this were very common in Auckland.
