NO-LICENSE CONVENTION.

£nr 'j-rcr.KGSAPii.— association*.] Wei.li.vgtox, Thursday. The session of the No-license Convention I was continued this morning. i Mr. J. A. D. Adams moved, "That Parliament be approached with a view to abolishing bottle licenses." The motion was carried. It was also resolved. "That Parliament be asked by the New Zealand Alliance to grant no new brewery licenses or permit depots to be established within or on a no- | license district's borders ; also, that all de- ! pot permits in such a position be withdrawn." Congratulatory resolutions were passed to the United Kingdom Alliance and the President of America on his anti-saloon attitude. It was also resolved to frame a set of questions to be put to Parliamentary candidates, to ascertain their views on the nolicense question. The Government is to be urged to amend the electoral laws in order to close the rolls three weeks before the issue of the writs. The Government is also to be requested not to trade in alcoholic beverages through its Viticulturist- and Tourist Departments or otherwise, and it is urged that all tourist hotel licenses be cancelled. Resolutions were passed asking for legislation so that local option may be settled by the absolute majority rule, and that the people be given a. Dominion as well as a local option vote, on the majority basis. It was decided to recommend leagues in the Dominion to make a special .contribution in aid of the cause in the Taumaru:nui electorate. The next convention is to be held in Christchurch. A committee representative of the Dominion was set up to consider the question of finances and to report to the next convention.

A paper on the organisation of tho partywas lead by Mr. Murine, of Pahnerston North, and it was decided to print it in the Vanguard. The question of temperance instruction in the public scnools was left in the hands of the Alliance executive. Mr. G. B. Nicholls moved, on behalf of the Awaruu electorate, " That the Alliance approach Parliament asking that the pro? vision for the half poll necessary in contested elections oc deleted from the Statute Book." ; .; ■* The, convention decided to convey its congratulations to Dr. Chappie on his election for Tuapeka. ANNUAL MEETING OF THE ALLIANCE. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Alliance Mr. A. S. Adam-') was in the chair. The report and balauce-rsheet were adopted. The following resolution was passed: " That this annual meeting of the New Zealand Alliance, assembled in Wellington om June 18, 1908, expresses its deep regret and indignation' that in response to the request of the British Government for information respecting the working of local option in the Dominion the Minister lor Justice failed to give any adequate responseto that request." ' The following officers were . elected :—President, Mr. Wesley Spragg (Auckland); vice-presidents, Messrs. A. S. Adams, D., 0. Cameron, with the vice-presidents already elected.
