SUFFOCATED IN MUD.
An inquest was held at Otorohanga on Wednesday, to inquire : into circumstances surrounding the death of a young Englishman named William Cats Stephenson, who was ■ »; found lying dead on the Waitomo Valley Road. Stephenson and his brother had been out from Home about a year, and had just completed the purchase of a farm near where his body was found. Deceased, who was 21 years of age, left Otorolianga about noon on Tuesday, on horseback, carrying a cart saddle strapped to his back. An hour later he was found by Walter Turner lying on hi* face in the mud. dead. Medical evidence showed that Stephenson had taken a fit, and had fallen in the mud, and; died from suffocation. A verdict was returned accordingly. The previous owner of the farm met his death by drowning during the floods in January of 1907.
