A tearoom proprietor was to-day fined £2 and costs, £2 16s, for two breaches of the Shops and Offices Act in employing a waitress over 52 hours in one week, and failing to give her a half-holiday. Palmerston North, Thursday. - The Roman Catholic body have purchased a large 17-reomed residence here for a Christian Brothers', school. The headquarters of the Christian Brothers are at Dublin, and the Australasian headquarters are at Sydney. The only other institution of the kind in New Zealand under the direction of the Christian Brothers is at Dunedin. Dcxedi.v, Thursday.
