MAORI AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE.
| The Rptorua Times says:—Wo must hearti- j ly congratulate .the. members of the Ngati i WJaakarie tribe on their action in making j an endowment for the . purposes of Maori j agricultural education. They are exceed- j ingly anxious to work their lands, and in order to do so profitably they must know how to do it. What the Maori needs most urgently in a .sound industrial education, more particularly ill pursuits connected with the land. The site of the proposed college is admirably chosen', and the working of the ground included in the endowment would give the students an insight into the various. methods used in dealing with various classes, of ground. The establishment need not be on a. very extensive scale at first. The scheme has immense potentialities for good. One great advantage, of having an agricultural college for the training of Maoris, situated near Rctorua, is that the students would at.it meet with the natural. conditions prevailing upon their own land?, to ' which, upon finishing their course, they would presumably direct their attention.' Schools of farming for the benefit ,of binMaori population should be sown broadcast over the surface of the North Island, so that every Maori could learn to make himself a useful and prosperous citizen. y ■ -..
