[BY telegraph, —PRESS ASSOCUTICST.] Dcxemx, Wednesday. OwtKG to th« refusal of Colonel SUneham, officer commanding No. 1 Battalion, to recommend Sergeant-Major Benfell for appointment as lieutenant, and his refusal to reconsider his decision, tho North Dueedin Rihes, at their annual meeting tonight, resolved, " That the efficiency of this long-established company is imperilled by the refusal of the officer commanding the battalion to recommend Sergeant-Ma-jor Beufell as lieutenant, and as a protest against the high-handed act. of the officer this company, having no further alternative, forthwith disband ; also, the members of the North Dnnedin Rifles pledge themselves not to enrol themselves in any company belonging to No. 1 Battalion while under its present commander."- „,—
