In responding to the toast of the "Agricultural and Pastoral Interests of the Ashburton Countv," at the dinner tendered to the Hon. R. MeXftb at Aslibunon, Mr. J. Lambie quoted some interesting statistics showing the development of the county in recent years. Tile total length of bridges (over 12ft) was 9221 lineal feet; bridges {under 12ft) constructed over water-races, 5000 lineal feet; and there were 1600 miles of water-races. As many as -1255 acres of trees had been planted, and in. addition to the recreation grounds, public buildings?, ofce., the turn of £1466 14s 6d had been paid for the destruction of small birds. He thought, there was not another county iu New Zealand that could l>piut tu -thy t>auic results.
