At a meeting of the Ohinemuri Licensing Committee all the licenses were granted, with the exception of that of the Waiorongomai Hotel, which was burnt down some time ago and a new building erected, but on a site some considerable distance away. Two objections wtre received in opposition to-the license being moved, and an adjournment for a fortnight was granted, to allow the licensee to call rebutting evidence.

Before proceeding with the applications at the annual meeting of the Manawatn Licensing Committee to-day the chairman said that he wished to publicly state that everything had been quite a's it should be. ' The Health Department had been most indefatigable in supplementing the efforts of the committee, and during the last three years there.had been a marked improvement in all the hotels in the Manawatu Licensing District! All the applications were granted, subject to the health officer's requirements in several hotels being complied with.

CHRISTCHURCH. [BY. TELEGBAPff. —PRESS ASSOCIATION-.] Chbistchcbch, Thursday. The Christchurch Licensing Committee sat at noon to-day. The police reported that all three-storey buildings had been provided with iron balconies for fireescape purposes, and others bad been provided with satisfactory escape-. Drinking among women : was certainly not increasing, and the habit was not indulged in to any large extent. Farmers' wives on market days visited hotels with their husbands, and some working men's wives in country districts bought beer in jugs for home; consumption.
