DINIZULI'S TRIAL.

STOPPAGE OF HIS SALARY.

QUESTION'S IN PARLIAMENT.

By Telegraph— Pres* AMgciation.~-CopyriffhU

London, June 2. Ix (he House of Lords the Karl of. Crowe (Secretary of State for the Colonies) censured the Natal Go* vernment for stopping the salary of the paramount Zulu chief, Dimzulu, without having first obtained Imperial assent to such stoppage.

He declared this to be a breach of the conditions under which Dimzulu returned to- Zululatul, and that it inflicted a hardship on the prisoner, who was involved in much expense owing to the prolongation of the trial. But inasmuch as legal points were involved, and the matter had been referred to the Supreme Court, its decision must be awaited.

In the "House of Commons Lieu--Colonel Seely (larder-Secre-tary for the Colonies) said that tho Natal Government contended that the arrest of Dinizulu with a view t.i criminal proceedings implied his suspension from the Government service, and, with it, the suspension o*. his salary. -,

The Natal Government has authorised Renter's Agency to explain that the Imperial sanction to Dinizulu's removal from Zuluiand wan interpreted as covering the suspension of bis salary. The suspension was made in accordance with ■ the rules of the Civil Service as regard ed either blacks 'or whites.
