BOTTLED MILK,

A WELLINGTON INNOVATION.

Wellington householders are now able to purchase milk which comes from the State farm, at Weraroa, and which they should be able to ndy upon as being just as pure as milk can be. It will be supplied to them by the Wellington Fresh Food and Ice Company, which has just completed arrangements with the Government to take all the milk produced at Weraroa. The milk will be dealt with under the same system as has been used by tho company during the past two months, that is, it will be pasteurised and sent out to householders in sealed bottles.

The company, does not itself sell milk in . cans to any but large establishments, all its retail trade being done solely by means of sealed bottles of varying size. The bottles, . when returned by customers, whether clean or not, are most carefully nneed in cold water, put through boiling water, and then sterilised by being left in steam for about half an hour, cleansed with the brush, and finally rinsed again in cold water and set to drain. They are filled in a special room, where the atmosphere is perfectly still—this being to prevent any possibility of contamination thereand then sealed up with little tight-fitting wood pulp caps which cannot be touched without showlng^it. The company's plant is very complete. There are no less than 10 freezing rooms in the place, a 12-ton machine being kept going solely on their account.. There are also two other engines, numerous pumps and other pieces of machinery.
