CODLIN MOTH IN CANTERBURY

[BY telegraph.—own correspondent.] Christchttrch, Thursday. It having been stated that the codlin moth pest had obtained a strong hold in the Canterbury district, and was spreading to many orchards, a member of the staff of the Press had an interview with Mr. M. Murphy, a well-known local authority, on the subject. "I regret to say that the pest is firmly established, and I fear that our Canterbury orchards will soon be in the same plight, as those in the North Island,"' said Mr. .Murphy. "I am glad to find that the Hon. R. McNab, "Minister lor Lands ami Agriculture, has taken rigorous measures to prevent, as far as possible, the introduction of any more fruit pests into the Dominion, notably the fruit fly.''
