NOTES. The chairman of the Auckland Stock Ex- .; change points out that the Auckland Sharej holders* Committee had much to do with the I present satisfactory slate of affair* sis to j colonial representation on the board of the j Talisman , Consolidated. . A! a meeting of directors in the. Phoenix Gold Mining Company Mi.: C. \V. Bull was tek-cted front a, large number of applicant* for the position of mine manager. The directors intend to proceed with the development of the property with all expedition. In the Tangiaro mine (formerly Preece's Point, at Coromandel), the shaft has been sunk a total of 53ft. The manager reports that the country he is passing through is a very kindly class for gold. Ho has also a level started hillwards, which has been driven for 10ft. He had to stop work on the shaft for a short while, on account of heavy rain, and put the men in the drive. He has out the leader that runs lengthwise through the old shaft, and the prospects that he can get by the mortar convince him that .specimen stone is not far off. The manager of the Kapowai mine reports that he is still getting very good prospects on Mclsaac's leader. He is sinking below the drive a few feet to ascertain if the gold goes down. The winze is down 6ft, and very fair prospects , are obtained in the j bottom. There is a. little improvement on : Carroll's reef, and very fair prospects were met with for the last few days. The manager is having some prospecting done on Lindsay's leader in the hangingwall of the present workings, and on the east side of tins creek there is a well-defined seam, carrying a little gold. The No. 1 level crosscut in the KuranuiCaledonian mine is still penetrating nice firm sandstone. Tho manager reports that several small quartz stringers were intersected during the past two weeks. Some of these contained very nice minerals, and look- j ed kindly for cold, but were rather too | small to work. The country in the drive on I No. 7 reef at No. 1 level'is still excellent for gold. The reef is about IBiti wide, and Fretting more solid and compact than it was. Some portions of it carry nice minerals, and look promising. Everything is in readiness to start driving the intermediate level on Whitley's leader east. This will be exextended until the Cambria reef is cut. The manager intends also prospecting the hangingwall of the Cambria reef when cut, as he thinks it probable it will improve in the better country existing. Henderson's leader at No. 1 level is being prospected. A considerable amount of gold has been won from this leader, and as there is a large block of it left in above No. 1 level the manager will rise on it, to prove if the run of gold the tributcrs had goes. up.
