DEMAND . FOR INCREASED PAY. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] . ( Dunedin, Friday. The employees, of the Burnside. Freezing Works, .the property -of the Christchureh Meat, Company,have for some time past been dissatisfied , with the rate., of pay being given them. About November last the men were informed, it is stated, that they would receive the same rate of pay as was made: the subject of the award of the Christchurch Freezing Works, namely, Is 3d. for ordinary time of an eight hours' day. and Is 8d for overtime. > The season was commenced oil January 28, but it is alleged that the company has declined to give more than Is , per hour for -ordinary time and Is ljd for overtime. It is further alleged that the pay to outside hands was reduced from- Is to 11 |d per hour after putting in about one month's work, the result being general dissatisfaction. The men affirm that their demands for ail , increase have met with a point-blank refusal, and the employees, numbering .17 in all, have intimated to the management that unless their wishes arc acceded to they will cease work at 12 o'clock . to-morrow (Saturday), and will not return until such time as they get what they ask for. It is stated by the men that, in reducing 'the,-pay. of ithe outside hands to 11-{d punhour, the company has brought them under the workers' award, which the men contend the company is not justified in doing.
