REFUSING TO OBEY. ORDERS. At the Police Court yesterday, before Dr. F. Cardan and Mr. Colin Campbell, justices of the peace, three seamen, W. Shackcll, Edward Bailey, and James Crocker, employed on the s.s. Turakina, pleaded not guilty to absconding from that ship, and to disobeying the chiet oTcer's orders. The evidence showed that at about 8.30 on Wednesday morning the? defendants were ordered to go to work, and they refused, walking ashore instead. The Bench decided to have the men put on board on payment of costs, amounting to 14s in each case. OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE. Thomas Kenelay was charged with using offensive language to Henry Nicholls. It appears that Kenelay was grazing his horse on the road recently, when Nicholls, a ranger, came along. The former was committing an offence in allowing his horse to graze on the highway, and- for that breach of the by-laws he was fined ss, and costs 28s. When the ranger told him of the offence h? .was committing Kenelay was alleged to have used the language complained of. The Bench decided to bind him over to keep the peace for 12 months in his own surety of £20. -MISCELLANEOUS.. For riding bicycles on the footpath ol King Edward's Avenue two boys, Maurice Kalman and Harold Possenerkie, were ordered to pay costs amounting to 7s in each case. t Wm. Ireland was fined 10s and costs for riding his bicycle along the footpath of Market Road Epsom. For failing to keep a donkey ■ within bounds William Scarbroa was convicted, and ordered to pay costs, 7s. - For drunkenness three 'first offenders were convicted. Two were fined 5s and costs, and the other was discharged. A fourth forfeited his bail, and another was, remanded for a week's medical treatn^A.i'
