The barque Ganymede, Captain W. Olliver, arrived from Melbourne yesterday with a cargo of general produce, berthing at Quay-street Jetty No. 2 to discharge. The. master reports: The Ganymede left the wharf at Melbourne on April 11 and cleared the heads on the 15th. She met with fresh, south-east winds through Bass' Strait, followed by , westerly > winds until sighting the Three Kings oh the-28th ; thence calms and southeast winds to arrival. The barque will ; probably be floated into the Auckland Dock for cleaning and painting on discharge, and then sails for Kaipara to. load timber for Melbourne. r NEW ORIENT LINERS., , Three--liners for the Orient Company's need" in connection with their new Australian inail contract are being laid down oil the Clyde and another at Belfast. Of the 36 sailing vessels recently in port at Newcastle ,12 carry four masts, nine being barques,* batquentines, and one a schooner. The barques are: Dtinstaffnage (3129 tons), Palgrav» (307? tons). Colonial Empire (2281 tons), Eilbek (2222 tons). Regina Elena (2148 tons). Wandsbek (2115 tons), Swanhild* (1939 tons). West Lothian (1737 tons), and Metropolis (1697 tons). The barquentines are: Alta (1332 tons), Sound oP Jura (1020 tons); and then there was the fine six-masted schooner Everett C. Griggs (2351 tons). The total tonnage of the fleet was 25,918 tons. NEW STEAM SERVICE TO FIJI. Negotiations have been proceeding for the establishment of a • new steamship line between Australia and Fiji (says the Western Pacific Herald). A Mr.. De Beers, a Melbourne broker interested in shipping, came to Suva to try. and complete arrangements for the formation of a local company. There were, so report 'says, two Steamers of 2000 tons and 12 knots speed under offer for the sum of about £15,000, and it was suggested that a Company, should be formed in the colony with a capital of £20,000 to purchase the .steamers and inaugurate a service between Melbourne, Sydney, and Fiji.
