THE COMING ELECTIONS.
CLOSING OF MAIN ROLLS
APPROXIMATE FIGURES-
The twain rolls for the forthcoming Parliamentary elections dosed yesterday, and will be sent on to Wellington, where they will be printed. Generally speaking, little or no interest was displayed in their compilation, the majority of those eligible to vote deciding to make their inquiries later as to whether they are on the main lolls, and '? not. to enrol on the supplementary rolls, which close when lite writs are issued tor the elections. The no-license party was the only organisation which carried on an ,t live campaign in getting electors enrolled, and in the Parnell and Eden electorates they made a house-to-house canvass. j The exact number oi the main rolls for ; the various electorate will not be known i for a itv or two. I:>>,;' it is anticipated that that for Auckland West will have j 6000 names, that for Pamell 7000. thai ! for Grey Lynn 7500. and that for Wattemala 6500. | Since the las! general election was held j the boundaries oi the various electorates j have been considerably altered. The ! Auckland Central seat hits received the j addition of the block in the south-west i corner oi Auckland East, running front I Kent-street to Crnnmter Road and Pollenj street in the Grey Lynn borough, and it i Ins ulro had a portion of Epsom added. : The not!b-western portion has been exI fended by taking in the triangle from the j intersection of Hepburn and Napier Streets, through to College Road, and down to the corner of Victoria Park. City West has thus been made smaller owing to it-- largely increased population. Grev Lynn has also had some minor alterations. Wahemata, now extends slightly to the north of Warkworth, and has no frontage to the West Coast, its western boundary being now at Riverhead. The hulk of the excluded portion, the Waitakerei.% etc, has been given to Eden, while a small piece to the north is included ill Kaipara. In the case of Eden, the other alterations are immaterial, Manukau now practically only runs as far south as Drury, and then runs in a nprth-easterly direction to the I coast, and goes info the old Franklin elecI i torate. Two new electorates have beep allotted to Auckland province since the last election, viz., Tauranga and Tatmiaruniii.
