AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of tlio Auckland Ha?bour Board was held yesterday, when there were present the Hon. E. Mitehelaon (chairman), Messrs. H. D, Heather, 0. 0. Daore, J. B. Macfarlane, W. J. Napier, W. E. Hutchison, A. J. Entrican, A. E. Glover, A. Keyes, J. K. Kneen, and G. W. Basley. Kerbing an Wharves: A petition signed by most of the shipowners, agents, merchant*, carriers, and timber merchants in the city was received, urging the advisability of kerbing all the Board's new wharves. Mr. Macfarlane moved -that all wharves be kerbed, and that the kerbir.tf be painted with white luminous paint, 'litis was agreed to, Cranes on Wharves: The engineer nubmitted proposals for the erection of •nine'* on tlie Railway and Queen-street Wharves, Homo for immediate delivery, and providing for the erection of travelling cranes and \, others in two years. In. the meantime it / would be desirable, he thought, to erect foul travelling ernnen inside the sheds on the Bailway Wharf. It was resolved to refer the matter, together with the question of lighting Calliope Dock and the Railway Wharf, la a sub-committee. Board's Allotments: Moor.*:. Masse? Brother*, Limited, applied for four or morn of the Board's allotment.- fronting PatUwon* street. The matter was referred to the Hoard in committee. Claim for Damages: Messrs. Pollen and Dawson, solicitors, wrote serving notice on the Board that they would be joined as defendants in an action against the Ferry Company, brought by Captain 11. H. Brown, owing to an accident which happened to him on the Board'* wharf on March 7. The company had declined all lability in the matter. Claim for Carting: The Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company, Limited, wrote Claiming £25 5s 6d under the same heading as that of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company, for expenses of cartage in loading the ».a. Kumar* at Queen-street Wharf. When they booked _ space by this steamer, the letter added, it was on the distinct assurance that she would load at the Railway Wharf. <>.. the motion of Mr. Macfarlane, it was resolved not to allow the claim, the Board having no contract with the company. Requests Declined: George Sandowii wrote | asking for permission to place wa&te material from soap-boiling and chemical works in the harbour. The request was declined. Th« Auckland Rowing Club applied for the us* of the graving dock on Good Friday for the holding of swimming races. As the dock will be occupied, permission could not be granted. Approach to Hobson-street Wharf: A petition signed by 36 business firm- was presented complaining of " the disgraceful state of the ~ road leading on to Hobson-street Wharf." The matter was referred to the Board Jo committee. Ferro-Concrete Company's Grievance The Ferro-Concrete Company wrote pointing out in connection with the Railway Wharf contract that the Board had had continuous use of the wharf during construction, causing them interruption and much interference in the work. The letter went on to detail th* inconvenience caused in the laving of asphalt. erection of iheds, etc., etc., and stated that the cost of frequent removal of pile*, steelplant, etc., had been a heavy on« to the company, which was not contemplated in th* contract. The company asked for some consideration in regard to this extra, work. Th« letter was .icferrcd to th« Staadiui Committee, ... !'
