Mr. Light had been organist at the Pittstreet Methodist Church for the past four years, and was held in high esteem. He was a splendid organist, and completed his musical education in .London with honours. The trustees of the Pitt-street Church met last evening, and passed a resolution of deep sympathy and condolence with Mrs. Light in her bereavement. At St. David's Presbyterian Church. Scott,, of the -Northern Steamship Company's service, died yesterday morning after a short illness. He underwent an operation last- week, but bronchitis supervened, and he' passed away in a private hospital. The deceased, who • v was a native of Hull, England, came to Auckland as .'-"back as 1867, and after '■ trading on the coast in various sailing vessels he joined the Northern Company's service, and then Messrs. Donald and Edenborough's Island steamer Richmond as mate, remaining on the Kichmond for a number ' ; : of years. He then joined the Northern Company's- service as second officer of the Wakatere in 1896, afterwards being pro- ? moted to chief officer. He was of a very kindly, genia l nature, and a thorough seaman. He made many friends both at the Thames-and Auckland.

A special summoned meeting of the Loyal Fountain of Friendship Lodge, M.U., 1.0.0. F., was held last evening foi the purpose of doing honour to its oldest mem ; her, viz., Brother George Leahy, P.P.G.M'. In the absence of the Noble Grand, Brother E. 'Martin presided, and called upon the Deputy-Grand Master of the Auckland district (Brother H. A. A. Hour) to pre- * sent Brother Leahy with a handsome P.P.G.M.'s jewel, suitably inscribed. The Deputy District Grand Master referred to the yeoman service i.'enderd the lodge in its early days by Brother Leahy, and mentioned that on the 23rd of last month he had completed 50 years of membership, having joined in 1858. Brothers J. J. Holland and E. Leydon, P.P.G.M.'s, also testified to the meritorious services rendered during the lengthy period Brother Leahy, had been connected with the lodge. Brother Leahy, on rising to respond, was greeted with fur- ■ ther evidence of the popularity enjoyed by :■■; : ■' him. ...■■■
