COUNTRY NEWS.

OTAHUHU. [FROM OUR OWN" CORRESPONDENT.] The monthly meeting of the Band of Hope took place on Friday, the attendance being very large. .Mr. (4. Havill presided,, and a, good programme was supplied by members of the society. It was decided to inquire about procuring a supply of suitable badges for the members of the society. At the last meeting .of the Luke Memorial Committee the collectors' reports showed that £35 was available, with the expectation of a further amount. It is hoped that at the next meeting a suitable design for the memorial will be placed before the committee, and decisive steps taken to accomplish the object in view. The Rev. R. Taylor, who has made many friends in this district during his term as minister of the Methodist Church, preached his farewell sermon at the last week-night service in the church, a large congregation being present. Members of the Bow Club have reason to be pleased with the financial result of the concert recently held in aid of the club's funds, a sum of about £20 resulting. The green is in capital order, and two new rinks have been laid down. The croquet lawn adjoining has also been sown down, and a healthy take of grass has resulted. A favourable indication of the progress of the district is afforded by the number of new buildings in course of erection, but the contractors are- in many cases delayed in their work by the insufficiency of labour.
