The ' strain Perth reports having mea I rocU-st signals of distress off the lasmanian coast at midnight- on Friday. She bore down and found the steamer Karori had broken her thrust shaft. - The Perth stood by till Saturday night, and transhipped the mails,, The engineers of the Karori effected repairs. and the vessel is proceeding to .Sydney under easy steam. The Karori is one of the Union Company's fleet, and is a vessel of 1865 tons gross, and 1194 tons net, register. .She is a comparatively new steamer, having been buib in 190!?, at Stockton.
