NEW YORK CONVENTION. REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE. Bv Telegraph.—-Press Association.— Copyright. New York, April 12. The Republican Convention of New York State has adopted a platform supporting President Roosevelt's policies generally and favouring an early revision of the tariff and Governor Hughes for the Presidency. The two principal Republican candidates for the Presidency are Mr. C, Hughes, Governor of the State of New York, and Mr. W. H. Taft, Secretary for War. Mr. Hughes, who was elected Governor of New York (which is generally regarded as a stepping-stone to the Presidency) two years ago, may be described as an Independent Republican, and Mr. Taft has the support of President Roosevelt.
