MARIE LLOYD'S EX-HUSBAND.
FAILS TO PAY DEBT TO SOLICITOR. Formerly the husband of Marie Lloyd,, the well-known music hall artist, Percy Charles Courtenay was the defendant on a judgment summons at Southwark County Court, but he did not put in an appearance. The plaintiffs were Messrs. Faithfull and Son, solicitors, Thanet House, Temple Bar, and the amount sued for was £22 18s 6d. Mr. Faithful, of the plaintiffs' firm, said the debt was in respect of costs incurred in connection with legal proceedings. The: defendant, who was divorced from his wife, had occupied a room on the first floor a!; the best hotels, dresses in the finest clothes, and wears patent leather boots. Edward Mayo, in the employment of the plaintiffs, .said he went to Courtenay's house at 'ihames Ditton. but failed to serve the summons there. The residence was a large detached house, standing in its own grounds and witness was told that the defendant rented it furnished. His Honor: Did you see no lady who appeared to be his wife?—Oh, he is divorced from his wife. What else could you expect —a man with patent-leather boots Mr. Faithful: I can prove that the defendant is of no occupation whatever. He was at one time husband of Miss Marie Lloyd, but she has married, again since the divorce proceedings, and so has he. This judgment has been standing two and" a half years, but the defendant has never come near me, or mads the slightest effort to pay. , His Honor: Then I shall commit the de- ■ fendant* for 42 days,-, '•: bub shall suspend the writ o& condition that n& pays £5 & joontb*f I
