TROUBLE WITH FIREMEN.
[BY TELEGRAPH, —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] . Dcnedix, Thursday. , Something in the nature of a strike oo curred at Port. Chalmers last evening. Just as the .Ulimaroa was about to leave for Sydney a disturbance arose among the firemen, owing, it is said, to three of them .having been paid off, and to the refusal to pay oft' a few others. It appears that the steamer bad three firemen in excess of the required number on arrival, and about a quarter of an .hour before the time of departure the firemen, numbering about 20, informed the captain, that the work, was too hard, and , after some conversation the whole number wont ashore. Three men wvre then seemed to fill the places of those paid otf, and after some persuasion the others returned el) board. Just as the vessel was leaving two of the men jumped ashore, It is understood that some, of the steernge passengers were prepared to assist the hreinen in then; work if necessary; The vessel was delayed about 40 minutes.
