COMPULSORY WINDING-UP. BANKERS' 810 ADVANCES. By Telegraph.— Association.—Copyright. 23. Messrs. Barclay and Company, bankers, who are creditors to the extent of a quarter of a-million, are petitioning for the compulsory wind-ing-up of Sir James Laing and Sons, shipbuilders, of Sunderland. Messrs. Barclay allege that the balance-sheet for 1.996, showing a large profit, induced them to advance £100,000. : Laing and Sons, according to their account, immediately paid a dividend of 50 per cent. Barclay's Bank in July last advanced another £100,000 and £5000 more last February. Laings suspended three days later. The directors of Laing and Sons allege that they did not expect certain losses, exceeding £200,000. The case is proceeding.
