The Otira correspondent of Hi© Press states -'' that the preliminary work of stripping the .hillside of all loose material likely fo give . -•' trouble in the future, and of excavating a sufficient distance into the mountain to "< : ' reach solid country, has at length been accomplished, arid the workers will very shortly be beneath the surface, for driving operations are to be commenced immediately. •' : • The tunnels on the Holt's Creek pipe :/; line" arc going day and night, throe, shifts ' being employed, and the tunnels being short they will thus be completed in 'puck time. In this connection Mr. Leslie Reynolds, engineer, lias in contemplation the "use of wooden pipes for the.upper portion of lift work, and spiral riveted steel pipes for the lower section of the main. The latter pipes will in all probability come from ' - B auui. Shells for the storage of cement, ' ;; concrete blocks, etc., are about to be erected on the river-bed close to the tunnel mouth. '
