HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT.

OBJECTIONS TO THE NEW BILL.

[by TELEGRAPH. PRESS association.] Curistchurch, Wednesday. A CONFEBEHCK between Dr. Valintine, In-spector-General of Hospitals, and the Christchurch Hospital Board, took place tonight. It was pointed out to Dr. Valintine that the principal objections of the Board to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Bill were those relating to Government control over the appointment of the matron and house surgeon, the election of sub-commit-tees by the ratepayers of the district, instead of by the Board, and the restriction of the powors of the Board to accept a tender for any work over £10. Dr. "Valintine said he would bring : the objection respecting the appointment of subcommittees under the favourable notice of the Minister. He defended the provision placing the appointment of house surgeon and matron in the. hands of the Government, because lie though! the Government should have more control, as they contributed £1 for £1 by subsidies. The Chief Inspector and his assistant would have better means of becoming acquainted with the qualifications of the matron and house surgeon. The Board usual appointed the house surgeon on testimonials, which was not a satisfactory way of doing it.
