COMMERCIAL.

The sharemarket was fairly busy yesterday. In investment lines National Banks sold at £5 Bs, at which price, more were offered, buyers £5 7s. Kauri Timbers (cont.) sold at 10s 4d and 10s sd, more being wanted at the latter price, sellers 10s 9d. New Zealand Paper Mills sold at 23s 6d, with further buyers at 235, and no declared sellers. Wilson's Portland Cements (ordinary) were done at 455. In mining lines Waihis were still rather easier, sellers quoting at £9 Bs, with late buyers at £9 7s 3d. Talismans firmed a shade, with sales at Sis 9d to 52s to 51s 9d to 52s 3d, late sellers 52s 3d and buyers 525. Waihi Grand Junctions sold fairly freely on a fluctuating market, business being reported at from '23s 3d to 22s lid tp 23s to 22s to 22s 3d to 225. Sellers closed rather tinner at 22s 9d, with buyers still offering 225. Waihi Consolidated* eased slightly, selling at lid. At the Addlngton live stock market to-dav here were, large entries of store nheej> and fat rattle, and medium yardings of other classes of dock. Prime beef sold at improved rates, and here was a good demand for store sheep. Fat iambs, mostly light sorts, sold 1 at, last week's prices, and there was a further rise in fat 'beep. Pigs were firm at late rates. Dairy ■ows sold well, and stores were difficult to dispose of. Veal calves realised 4s to 43s and 50s, accordnig to size and quality. There was a poor entry of store cattle, but little demand. Yearlings realised 19s: 15 months to 18 months, 25s to 30b; dry cows. 20s to 60s. Dairy cows, springing or newly calved, sold , well, prices ranging from £6 to £9 5s for best and £3 10s to £5 10a for others. There was a medium yarding of pigs, which sold well, especially porkers and large stores. Baconerß made 47s 6d to 57s 6d and heavier 60s to 70s (equal to 5d per lb); porkers, 35s to 40? A .slightly better feeling pervades the wheat market, buyers- showing a little more disposition to operate. Prime lots are readily placed at fully up to late rates. Fowl wheat is scarce, prime milling especially. Velvet realised 4s 6cl to 4s 7d; good to best', 4s s*d to 4s 6d ; whole fowl wheat, 4* 4d to 4s 6U ; damaged and broken, 3s 6d to 4s 4d. At the Burnside stock sales to-day 1762 sheep were penned, which was a small entry. A failproportion, were good-quality wether*, while the quality of the ewes was slightly better than that' of last, week.
